Now in Mainz we had a special breakfast with nonalcoholic bubbly with Angela and Oliver - and Quintor, Angela’s sisters dog there for a holiday.

We then went to check out Mainz.
Quintor has problems with her back legs so had to be pulled along in a bag with wheels.
First we went to the church with Chagall windows.
He designed them when he was 92 years old - but never saw them completed. He was also originally a Russian Jew - so it was a big thing to donate a design to a Christian church from Germany who had committed genocide on Jews.
We then walked down to the centre of Mainz seeing several monuments and stayed including Gutenberg, the inventor of movable type who had moved from Strasbourg.
We then went to the famous Dom Cafe that had been in operation since 1792 and had some coffee and cake. The cake selection was fantastic!
We then checked out a few things on the way back to the car including the 1000 year old cathedral and a sculpture using nails that had been purchased by a donation to help renovate the cathedral .
By this time Quintor had been renamed ‘Queen Tor’ as she was being carried sedan-chair like in her bag by 2 servants.

We then went back to the house to make a lovely potato bake. We also revisited Aperol spritz and had an exotic cocktail made from black gin and rhubarb juice.
After dinner we played a challenging card game of 5 Crowns. Angela was the winner by a long way.
Oli later introduced us to Mozart kugel chocolates with marzipan - very Christmassy!
