After a couple of days in Forfar where Gus got his air con looked at - we have headed off on a short few days trip on the north Aberdeenshire coast while we are waiting for a car part.
First stop was St Cyrus - to a new bird hide ( with a chemical disposal unit) - 2 birds with one stone 😊.
It was in a nature reserve with a different type of sheep who came to check us out.
Next stop was Crathes Castle near Banchory dating from the 1500s. It's quite a spectacular little castle with beautiful gardens. The weather had also improved so they were looking spectacular.
Crathes is supposed to be one of the most haunted castles in Scotland - but we didn't see anything.
We decided to be a bit adventurous with our overnight stay as the location suited Glenn to be near a bird life sanctuary. The app Search for Sites described it as having a very rough road going in and herds of grazing sheep to look out for - near the beach. Therefore caution was advised. First of all it was difficult to find the road in the first place - Google knew nothing about it. Then it was as described - very rough, ending up with us going across a cattle grid to enter what looked like an unfenced sheep paddock next to the beach.
We thought we had no neighbours - but we were wrong as we woke up next morning to the van being rubbed from outside - by some locals we hadn't spotted.
After gingerly driving out , we were relieved to be back on a tarmac road.
Obviously the cows were very curious. It is freezing back in Australia.
