We eventually left our nice quiet spot next to the cornfield and went to check out Bayonne.
Unfortunately it was really busy and we couldn’t find a good spot to park. After circling the city and getting a couple of good snaps we decided to continue on our way. However it looks like a lovely town - another day!

We then arrived at our camping car aire next to Milady beach. It is in a great location with only a few minutes walk to the beach with lovely beach cafe and surf school. It’s just next to a busy road - but hey it’s Biarritz in peak season!

Biarritz became famous as Napoleon III and his wife Eugenie spent every summer here - and even moved the imperial court here during the summer. That then attracted many other royals to visit.
Edward VII’s residence is next to us on Milady beach.
We then got the bus into the centre part of Biarritz.
It was a sea of people on the Grande Beach - even busier than Bondi!

The art deco houses peeking out from behind the big buildings are very lovely.
We decided to get a quick overview of Biarritz on the little train - with audio in 7 languages.

We enjoyed hearing about how it had been a fishing village until the 1850s and only got built up after then.
Eugenie had her palace built in the shape of an E next to the Grande Beach - now rebuilt as the Palace Hotel - a good old photo from the air.

This is also the chapel she built.

On the way home we stopped off at the beach bar for a refreshment and enjoyed watching the swimmers and surfers.
