After a relaxed coffee at the Biarritz beach bar we drove north to Capbreton in preparation for the evening event where we were catching up with Claire and Stephen and to see their friends band Pourquoi Pas.
We parked at the huge aire next to the beach. It’s a very surfy place as the waves are good here.

We went into town to check it out.
It is an old town that did a lot of whaling until the 15th century and then was a trading port on the river - until an engineer moved the river to Bayonne. Napoleon III moved it back but it was too late to save the town.
Sea bathing then attracted lots of tourists in the 1800s - and it has now been overwhelmed by tourists. The streets were buzzing with people finishing up lunch at 2pm - and then many shops starting to open after lunch.
We found some bread and went back to the van for a late lunch.
We chilled out in the van and then went for a swim in the surf with several hundred other people.
It was quite big waves so I stayed on the edge while Glenn went through the waves to a flat spot beyond. We then had a cooling beach shower and got ready for our evening out.
Google took us on a nice shortcut walk trough a forest to get to the campsite restaurant where the band was playing. It was extremely busy - the restaurant was totally booked out.
It was great to see Claire and Stephen again and to meet their 3 new Dutch friends from their campsite - very nice people who have holidayed together for 8 years.
We were on a table with the band - and as the restaurant was overbooked we had to allow them sit down and eat first before they started playing and then we could take over their seats. The boys were boogieing in the back stalls.

The band were excellent- led by the amazing front man Philippe who seemed to have endless energy belting out the hits.

The music was mostly in English from 70s and 80s with Brian Adams for Claire - and even a special AC/DC Highway to Hell for us towards the end.
We said a last farewell to all. We won’t see Claire and Stephen until next year.
We then started our walk back to Gus - this time along proper lit roads - a little longer.
Glenn managed to consume a lot of beer and wine during the night so it was hard to keep his volume down - but at least his legs worked on the way home this time!
