Ferry to Bardolino

We got back on our bikes to Peschiera and had a fast ride down the River to be able to catch the 11.15am ferry to Bardolino - about 1/4 way up Lake Garda.
We were on the ferry for about an hour which shows how huge Lake Garda is. The weather wasn’t too clear so the views were quite grey.
We arrived and found a very lovely - and very lively Main Street.

We needed a coffee after our fast cycle. We ordered a croissant each, actually brioche, not bread like - and they were enormous! I had a chocolate one and it’s the first time I have had too much chocolate- and too much croissant!
It defeated me!
We checked out the church at the top of the street - looking like a Roman temple. It had a weird queenly statue - but a beautiful painted roof - like many Italian churches.
We checked out the streets and wandered to the waterside on the north and it was extremely windy and cold. There was a sailing training school for children in little skiffs and they were being put through their paces in very difficult winds.
We then found a female dragon boat competition about to start. There were hundreds of competitors in their team shirts - and a big mascot.
We kept walking and found an old tower and small marina of town. It looked like the police had just got a nice new Alpha Romeo.
We walked up a side street away from the water and it was nice and calm again. The croissant had eventually gone down and we were feeling hungry again - around 2pm. We found a sheltered restaurant where we could have lunch - just before the kitchen closed.
I had a delicious omelette. Glenn had a nice spaghetti carbonara. The food is so good everywhere!
We had a walk around the other side of town and I found some shoes to replace my slip on crocs that have a hole in the bottom. I wear them every day to go in and out of the van and for walking around the campsite. The current ones have lasted 4.5 months.
It was then time for the return ferry, and we wanted to make sure we got on as it was very crowded on the way here. There was some confusion with the earlier ferry arriving late but we got on ours with no problem.
We had nice views on the way home in the sun. The village of Lazise on the way had a lot of medieval looking buildings.
We arrived back in Peschierra and found our bikes and rode home along the bike path.
We then had a quick turnaround to get out again to the medieval fair in the village that evening.
There were many stalls selling local merchandise and food. We found a wine tasting area where we bought 2 glasses and some tasting tickets. We enjoyed a nice muscato and some good reds.
We heard some noise and we were at the right spot to see the medieval procession coming up the street and the town officials to declare the festival open. There is a historic event at the castle here involving archers and falconers as part of a battle - and they were part of the procession.
After finishing our wine tasting we then went to find some dinner. We found some good pizza - and accompanied it by an Aperol spritz - a standard drink in the area. The festival stalls were selling them for 3.5 euro - very reasonable.
A band started up doing covers of British and American hits - not sure why there were so few Italian numbers. They were pretty good though!
We then wandered home with our wine glasses, seeing the lovely church very quiet now on the way past.

Your timing for finding festivals and food stalls is amazing… we need to travel with you xx
