We left the Lake Chalain aire and drove through lovely countryside seeing these milking cows, probably for Comte cheese, having a drink and posing for us.
We then found a lovely lake with amazing reflections in the morning light.
We parked up at our initial destination the Cascades du Herrison - or the Hedgehog Falls.
It was a short walk past the information booth, the bar and the gift shop to the falls. Many people were doing a 7km loop up the hill to all the falls in line.

On the way back we stopped for a coffee and had to ask for a smile from Glenn after the first photo - a big improvement.
There were lots of cuddly hedgehogs in the gift shop.

We then had to backtrack a little to continue our journey.
There were more bucolic meadows and cows and country scenes.
At another stop up higher we were able to take a short walk to see the top waterfall in the chain.

We came to a large cheese shop with wood workshop and shop on the other side of the road.
The wood shop was amazing with some great wooden items - some intricately lazer cut.
We bought some more Comte cheese - a younger one to contrast with our older one - and some morbier as we were now in the area. We enjoyed those at lunch.
We then found the Pic De L’Aigle lookout that required a 40 minute climb up a very steep, rocky, gravelly path. We made it and thank goodness the views were good or I would have been a little annoyed!!

After that big adventure we moved on to Morez that has an impressive rail viaduct amongst other things.
It’s a small town in the mountains that had several museums including an enameling museum that Glenn was interested in. However you had to call them beforehand to get into it - and they were not answering their phone. So we gave up on them.
Morez has a history of expertise in enameling, spectacles and watchmaking - that are all connected. We could have gone to the museum of spectacles but sorry we couldn’t get the enthusiasm together- sorry Tiah, Max and Matilda!
We found out later that Morez is still the world renowned centre for training people in how to prototype new designs in spectacle frames. This frieze is a big feature in town.

Driving on we came to our night spot of the town aire in Les Rousses. It’s mostly a town set up for skiing with many ski lifts and ski run areas in town and around the area. All the buildings look like cute Swiss chalets.
Glenn went to check out the nearby lake, but only found cows with bells - and very few birds.
We had a nice sunset.
