Quiet day in Luz-Saint-Sauveur

We had a late start to our mosey on down the hill to the main town of Luz-Saint-Sauveur. We went past the thermal bath area down to the main town busy with cyclists and sporty people coming and going on their expeditions.

There is a lot of info on the big Tour de France cycling climbs to the passes or Cols. The tour was here this year - about 3 weeks ago.

We stopped off for a bit of lunch in the main square.

The griffin vultures were very close circling over the town centre - they must have smelled something dead down there.

After a quick supermarket shop we did the Napoleon and Eugenie Promenade walk starting in the most historic part of town with an 11th century church related to the knights of Malta. The church had been fortified against bandits and the arsenal tower was just that!

We then continued onto a small chapel on top of a hill with only walking tracks to it.

There were nice views down to the town. An old tree had nearly consumed the signs on it.

We then continued along the nice shaded tracks on the other side of the river gully from where we are parked. We could see the mini golf and trout fishing beer garden opposite.

We came to the bridge that Napoleon III had commissioned- perhaps to make a circuit for his walks. The wooden scaffolding to hold the stone arch was quite significant.

We discovered all the bungee jumping happening off the bridge- and it looked really terrifying. It’s a long way down - and the bungee cord didn’t start holding back until they nearly hit the bottom. There were some terrified screams!

We then wandered back to Gus for a quiet night in watching Olympics.
